From Peregian to the Rainforest: How Your Holiday Helps the Planet

Why Our Reforestation Work Matters

At Glen Eden Beach Resort, we know that a beach holiday is about more than surf and sunshine.
It’s about connection—to nature, to each other, and to the future.
That’s why we’re proud to support Reforest Australia that fight climate change, protect wildlife,
and give back to local communities.

Here’s a closer look at what we’re helping to achieve, and why it matters.

Climate & Nature: Two Linked Challenges

  • When forests are cleared, carbon is released and habitats disappear.
  • As the planet warms, ecosystems struggle to adapt.
  • Communities face the double burden of environmental damage and fewer resources.

High-quality reforestation projects tackle all these challenges at once. Planting the right trees in the right places
removes carbon from the atmosphere, restores homes for wildlife, and supports more sustainable livelihoods for people.

Our Impact So Far

  • 75 trees planted
  • 298.3 m² of land restored
  • 15.3 tonnes of CO₂ removed

That’s like taking three cars off the road for an entire year—or powering an average Australian home for more than twelve months.

Spotlight Project: Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor

What’s happening here?

This area was once grazing land. The project is bringing it back to life as subtropical rainforest—
a critically endangered ecological community in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

The site runs along a tributary creek that connects to the Mary River. This river feeds into the Great Sandy Strait and
the Southern Great Barrier Reef lagoon. That means healthier rainforest leads directly to cleaner water, which benefits our reef.

Why it matters

The project is restoring the Gallery Rainforest (notophyll vine forest), which is home to rare and threatened species such as:

  • Southern penda (Xanthostemon oppositifolius)
  • Deep Creek fontainea (Fontainea rostrata)
  • Coxen’s fig parrot – one of Australia’s rarest birds
  • Richmond birdwing butterfly – a striking species that depends on rainforest habitat

Every tree planted strengthens this fragile ecosystem and creates a safer home for these species.

How We Measure Impact

It’s one thing to plant trees—it’s another to make sure they deliver real results. That’s why every project in Reforest’s portfolio follows strict standards of integrity.

Careful project selection

Projects must be transparent, permanent, and additional (meaning they wouldn’t happen without this support).

Evidence-based calculations

  • Carbon: In Australia, estimates use the Federal Government’s FullCAM model, which factors in species, location, soil, rainfall, and climate.
  • Biodiversity: Impact is measured as total restored habitat, with special attention to threatened species.
  • Communities: Where possible, projects also track jobs and local benefits.

Monitoring and reporting

Projects are checked and verified at every stage—from planning and site preparation to planting and long-term maintenance.
Payments are tied to outcomes, ensuring success is measured and sustained.

This means the numbers you see—like 15.3 tonnes of CO₂ removed—are not estimates pulled from thin air,
but carefully calculated and conservatively reported.

Linking to Global Goals

These projects don’t just restore local landscapes; they also help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  • SDG 13: Climate Action – reducing emissions and building resilience
  • SDG 15: Life on Land – protecting endangered ecosystems and wildlife
  • SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation – improving water quality that flows to the reef

By staying with us, you’re helping push these global goals forward in a very real way.

Why Glen Eden Is Involved

Our resort sits in a stunning natural setting, and we feel a responsibility to care for the environment that makes Peregian Beach so special.
By supporting reforestation, we are:

  • Offsetting part of our environmental footprint
  • Helping restore rainforest that benefits the Great Barrier Reef
  • Creating safe havens for rare and threatened species
  • Showing that tourism and sustainability can go hand-in-hand

When you visit us, you’re not just enjoying a holiday—you’re also contributing to a healthier future for the planet.

Looking Ahead

Our progress so far—75 trees, nearly 300 square metres restored, over 15 tonnes of CO₂ removed—is just the beginning.
In the months and years ahead, we’ll share more updates, including:

  • New areas restored
  • Wildlife returning to the corridor
  • Stories from the communities involved

We believe in transparency, so our guests and supporters will always know the real impact their holiday is having.

How You Can Be Part of It

  • Share our story: Help spread the word that tourism can support climate action.
  • Explore locally: Visit Eumundi and the hinterland to see the impact firsthand.
  • Travel lightly: Small choices like reusing towels or supporting local businesses all add up.

Final Thoughts

Reforestation may sound technical, but at its heart it’s simple. Trees clean our air, protect our water, provide homes for wildlife, and support communities.

By supporting projects like the Cooroy Mountain Wildlife Corridor, Glen Eden Beach Resort is proud to play a part in restoring balance.

So the next time you walk down to Peregian Beach from our resort, know that your holiday is also helping plant roots—literally—for a healthier climate,
richer biodiversity, and a brighter future.
